With the Ford Focus RS, an all-wheel-drive hot hatch that typically never sees the light of American day, having been confirmed for our soil, perhaps the doors are now open for other manufacturers to follow suit?
It may seem like a pipe dream, but according to Automotive News, that’s exactly what’s about to happen with Audi.
The car in question is the 362-hp RS3, currently sold in Europe. It defines the super-hot-hatch we enthusiasts salivate for here in America — with AWD powered via a 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder, good for a 0-62 mph time of 4.3 seconds while maxing out at 174 mph, thanks to its 343 lb.-ft. of torque.
If that all sounds too good to be true, well, it kind of is. According toAutomotive News, who claim to have received the scoop from Audi of America CEO Scott Keogh, only the sedan version of the RS3 will make it to the United States.
Those of us that adore the hatch will have to keep dreaming, but at least now we can do so behind the wheel of a massively-powerful, diminutive, AWD beast that’s typically reserved only for the fortunate few across the pond.
